Code 128 vs Code 39: which barcode should you use?
Density, character set, and scanner support — a clear comparison for logistics and industrial teams choosing between Code 128 and Code 39.
Density and character set
Code 128 encodes the full ASCII set more densely, so labels stay smaller for the same payload. Code 39 is limited to uppercase letters, digits, and a small symbol set.
For new logistics systems, Code 128 is usually the better default. Keep Code 39 when partners or legacy scanners require it.
