Barcode quiet zone, size, and print quality checklist

Why quiet zones, contrast, and printer scale decide whether a barcode scans — with a practical checklist for labels and packaging.

Quiet zones are not optional decoration

Scanners need clear space (quiet zone) around the symbol. Crowding art, text, or box edges into that space causes intermittent failures that look random on the floor.

Print at actual size

Browser print dialogs often default to fit-to-page. That shrinks bar widths below scanner tolerances. Prefer 100% scale and a test scan on the production printer.
